ALAMO   COLLEGES
The Alamo Colleges serve the Bexar County community through its programs and services that help students succeed in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed in today's world. Students are taught by highly qualified faculty with masters and doctorate degrees dedicated to creating a learning centered environment. Student services include counseling, computer labs, tutoring, financial services, services for the disabled, developmental instruction, veteran's services, and job placement.
The AC's five colleges -   San Antonio College,   St. Philip's College,   Palo Alto College,   Northwest Vista College,   and   Northeast Lakeview College - offer associate degrees, certificates and licensures in occupational programs that prepare students for jobs, as well as arts and science courses that transfer to four-year colleges and universities and lead to AA and AS degrees. In addition, the district operates the Advanced Technology Center, several Alamo Academies, the Central Texas Technology Center, the Southwest Campus, various Community Education Centers, and other Off-Campus Sites.
Alamo Colleges serves some 53,000 students in credit courses through the five colleges. An additional 18,000 students enroll in continuing education programs. The Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees include nine-members who are elected locally to six-year terms by Bexar County voters. The Chancellor, the district's chief executive officer, guides and implements the programs and policies of the Alamo Colleges.
The Alamo Community College District was established in 1945 as the San Antonio Union Junior College District. At that time, it assumed control of San Antonio Junior College, which had been run by the San Antonio Independent School District, and St. Philip's Junior College, a private school. District offices were first maintained at San Antonio College and moved to the current headquarters at 201 W. Sheridan St. The name of the District was changed to San Antonio Community College District in 1978 and again in 1982 to Alamo Community College District. The name changes more accurately reflected the mission and make-up of the District. In April 2009, the name was changed to Alamo Colleges. The Alamo Colleges now consists of five colleges: San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College.
We the members of the Alamo Colleges are committed to building our individual and collective character through a set of shared values. These values guide and inspire our thoughts and actions as we seek to fulfill our vision and mission.
