Scobee Planetarium Public Friday Programs for June, 2017

Each Friday evening, the doors open at 6:00pm with ticket sales in the Lackey & Camp Casper Ticket Booth 30 minutes prior to each presentation. Credit, cash & check sales ONLY.  Sorry, no debit sales.

Monday through Thursday the Scobee Planetarium is only open to school and community groups through an advance registration process.   

Tickets: $5/adult $4/child, seniors & military with ID, $2/Alamo Colleges personnel and students with current ID

6:30pm "Little Star That Could" Family presentation with no children age restrictions  

7:30pm The Sky Tonight Live Presentation Children must be 6yrs or older to attend

9:00pm Double Feature:  "Two Pieces of Glass" and "Robot Explorers" Children must be 6yrs or older to attend

The Scalan Observatory telescope is only available following the last planetarium program of the evening if weather and staffing permits.  The planetarium programs will run as scheduled with doors opening at 6:00pm for the first program.  The observatory telescope decision may be made as the evening progresses.  There is no fee for this service.  The first Friday of each month, weather permitting, the San Antonio Astronomical Association (SAAA) sets up  telescopes on the front terrace areas of our center for free viewing of the heavens.  This group's participation may  replace the Scalan observatory viewing on these nights.  Please, check the weather prior to coming out for the telescope viewing.

Scobee Planetarium Summer Wednesday Matinees

For nine consecutive Wednesdays this summer, the Scobee planetarium will open for an additional one hour public program.  Tickets will go on sale at 12:30pm and the presentations will begin promptly at 1:00pm being completed by 2:00pm.  The same Ticket prices posted for Friday night presentations will be applied for Wednesday matinees.  $4/child, seniors, & active military w/ID, $5/adult and $2/Alamo Colleges Students & Employees with "Current" ID

The first 100 seats sold sell out this matinee program.   All members of your group need to be present when the tickets are sold and there is no late entry once the show has begun.

The summer schedule is posted as follows:! 

    June 28th:  Little Star That Could ( no age restriction) This is expected to be a SOLD OUT program.

    July 5th:  Violent Universe & Secret Lives of Stars (Children must be 6yrs or older)

    July 12:  Black Holes (Children must be 6yrs or older)

    July 19:  Secret of the Cardboard Rocket (No age restrictions)

    July 26:  Dynamic Earth & Seven Wonders (Children must be 6yrs or older)

    August 2:    Extreme Planets & Robotic Explorers (Children must be 6yrs or older)

    August 9:  Perfect Little Planet (no age restrictions)  Last matinee!

The Scobee Planetarium will be closed on Friday, September 1st & 8th.

 Summer Camps Registration Launched         Cosmic Kids Camp June 26 - 30

There are four summer camp programs offered at the Scobee Education Center for the summer of 2017.  

The Cosmic Kids Camp (3-5th Grades) June 26-30 is sold out!   
Several registrations still remains for the Explorers Camp (6-8 Grades) July 10-14 and Camp Challenger for Girls (6-8 Grade) July 24-28.  
The 2017 Girls STEM Summit is full, so registering for the Camp Challenger Girls STEM Camp is the only way for middle school age girls to gain access to this important event.

Camper parents:  Please, complete your camper packets prior to the start of camp.  Children cannot be accepted into camp on the first day without the completed packet of required Alamo Colleges District documents.


GIRLS STEM Summit REGISTRATION IS Now CLOSED!  Registration for this event is filled and information will be sent to each registered girl for more details.

The only access to the Girls STEM Summit at this time is through the paid registration for the Camp Challenger All-Girls Camp that includes the STEM Summit programming.  Check back for openings as the summer progresses.  Girls in 6th to 12th grades.  Our goal is to encourage girls to look beyond the walls of their high schools, their homes, and their imagination to explore the possibilities of careers in STEM fields. We want them to hear from women working in these fields and hear their stories about how they reached their goals of being a successful female working in amazing STEM fields. The day will include a panel of speakers, hands on activities and many more events. Lunch will be provided on this day. Let’s get excited about STEM Ladies!
