Ranger LogoThe Ranger has been part of San Antonio College since about 1926 when the college newspaper was originally dubbed the "Junior Ranger." In the book “San Antonio College: In the Beginning…1925-1956,” former San Antonio College president Jerome F. Weynand writes about the Rangerettes who were formed in 1926 as part of the Girls Athletic Association. They wore western outfits and performed at college functions. As well, in 1947-48 there was a softball team called the SAC Rangersmade up of students who played in a city recreational league.

Today’s “Rangers” are much different than those times. A new era called for a new image. Over the years, several different variations of images have been created and used. In an effort to update the image and reintroduce the “SAC Rangers” President Robert Zeigler, Ph.D. commissioned a new image be created to honor the history of the SAC Rangers.

Mr. Dan Melgoza, a district graphic designer who used to work at SAC, designed the new image under the direction of Ms. Vanessa Torres, SAC’s Director of Public Relations. Melgoza worked to create a benevolent image that highlighted San Antonio College and the word “Rangers” in a professional and honorable fashion. Melgoza created several options that were then presented to the College Executive Team and President Zeigler. With input from the Student Government Association and a vote from the College Council, the new image became official in early 2013.

The College updated the image again in Summer 2017 to refresh and modernize the look.

Use of the refreshed image is encouraged; the purpose continues to be to showcase school spirit and pride. However, the image should never be used in place of the official college logo nor should it ever be altered in color or format. Please refer to the Alamo Colleges District brand manual for additional information about the District’s branding guidelines. For questions about using the new spirit image, please contact the SAC-PR office at or 210-486-0880.

The below image can be downloaded and used, per the aforementioned guidelines. Contact the SAC-PR Office with questions about use.
