...then go to "Mesoweb: An Exploration of MesoAmerican Cultures," (sponsored by the Pre-Columbian Art Research Institute).  Here is another excellent site, showing the Maya wall paintings at Bonampak from "ancientmexico.com."   Examine this new PBS program on The Lost King of the Maya, complete with maps and information on the hieroglyphs of the Maya.  Very important:  view this timeline of Mesoamerican and Central American art from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York!

    c. Describe the imagery, symbols, materials, and colors of the Teotihuacan murals.  See page 367.
    d. What cultural influences from the Olmec traditions and Teotihucan contributed to the development of the classical Maya culture?  See pages 368-370.
    e. Explore the Maya sites of Tikal, Palenque, and Copan and describe the characteristic features of the architecture.  See pages  370-374.
    f. Discuss the presentation of the human figure, in terms of form and content, and the purpose of the painted murals at Bonampak.  See pages 374-375.
    g. Describe the Chavin iconography that spread rapidly throughout the Andean region.  See pages 380-81.
    h. Who were the Moche and what remarkable art objects did they produce?  See page 384.
    i.  In what ways is the art of the native North American cultures -- such as the Adena and Mississippian cultures -- related to the art of Mesoamerica and South America?  View imagery throughout the chapter and provide comparisons.
