COURSE CALENDAR/SCHEDULE...FOR FALL 2009

1.  Week beginning Monday, AUGUST 24 ...If you haven't already, browse through SAC's "Strategies for Success" for on-line learners.  Then, read the introduction to the textbook and Chapter 1, "Art Before History."  Click on the link to Chapter 1 and follow the instructions on the chapter page.  All of the other chapters below are also 'linked in' and contain similar instructions for each chapter.  Use your browser's back button to return to this page, or from the "Art History Home" click on "schedule."  PLEASE NOTE:  Your first chapter report is due this Wednesday, August 26!  First chapter discussion comments will be due on Friday by midnight.

2.  Week beginning Monday, August 30...Chapter 2, "The Ancient Near East."

3.  Week beginning Monday, September 7...Chapter 3, "Egypt under the Pharaohs."

4.  Week beginning Monday, September 14...Chapter 4, "The Prehistoric Aegean."

5.  Week beginning Monday, September 21...Chapter 5, "Ancient Greece."

6.  Week beginning Monday, September 28...Chapter 6, "South and Southeast Asia before 1200."

7.  Week beginning Monday, October 5...Chapter 7, "China and Korea to 1279" and Chapter 8, "Japan before 1333." Take your pick -- write your report on one chapter only.

8. Week beginning Monday, October 12...Chapter 9, "The Etruscans." COMPLETE WORK ON YOUR MID-TERM PAPER DUE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15  --SEE GUIDELINES Visit the "art history links" for more resources.

9.  TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13 -- VISIT TO THE SAN ANTONIO MUSEUM OF ART  Meet in the lobby of the museum at 5:00 p.m....See "trips" for additional information.

10.  THURSDAY, October 15 -- MID-TERM PAPERS DUE BY 12:00 NOON -- SEE GUIDELINES

11.  Week beginning Monday, October 19...Chapter 10, "The Roman Empire."

12.  Week beginning Monday, October 26...Chapter 11, "Late Antiquity" and Chapter 12, "Byzantium."  You need only write ONE chapter report this week...NO discussion is necessary since your mid-term exam is also scheduled this week.  STUDY FOR YOUR MID-TERM EXAM ON THURSDAY!!

13.  THURSDAY, October 29 -- MID-TERM EXAM on Chapters 1 through 12...WATCH FOR INSTRUCTIONS THROUGH THE LISTSERV.

14.  Week beginning Monday, November 2...Chapter 13, "The Islamic World."

15.  Week beginning Monday, November 9...Chapter 14, "Native Arts of the Americas before 1300." SUBMIT YOUR FINAL RESEARCH PAPER TOPIC TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR.  BEGIN WORKING ON YOUR FINAL PAPER...Visit the SAC library resources for distance education.

16.  Week beginning Monday, November 16...Chapter 15, "Africa before 1800."

17.  Week beginning Monday, November 23...Chapter 16, "Early Medieval Europe."

18.  Week beginning Monday, November 30...Chapter 17, "Romanesque Europe" and Chapter 18, "Gothic Europe."  Paper due on ONE of the above chapters only;  NO discussion due this week since your final paper is also due this week!

19.  THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3 -- FINAL PAPER DUE BY 12:00 NOON.Watch the LISTSERV for information. 

20. FINAL EXAM -- TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8 -- WATCH FOR NEWS AND OTHER INFORMATION  ON LISTSERV.
