TO THE ART OF MARLEEN HOOVER
Shaman Spirit, mixed media drawing on paper.
Angel, small mixed media drawing on paper, 4 X 4
Detail Drawing of Native American pottery
All of the drawings above are completed in acrylic paints, berol prismacolor pencils, and grease markers on Rives BFK paper.  Drawings measure from 4x4 inches to 12X15 inches;  matted and framed, from 8X10 to 16X20.  These generally are small works on paper.

Subject matter varies, but often the themes are southwestern plants and objects, as well as contemporized ancient petraglyph imagery and feminine forms.

Mission Concepcion, San Antonio, mixed media drawing.
To express herself in her art, Marleen prefers the abstracted drawings, especially those with feminist, sacred and mysterious themes, like those pictured below.  While each one says something about her life, the story is often hidden in layers of paint and pencils.
Cella in Flight, mixed media drawing.
Goin Out of My Head, mixed media drawing.
Reaching for the Sun, mixed media drawing.
To the left is the human female, reaching for the sun and to the right is the "goddess," the link of her art to art history.  Kali, Coatlicue, Guan-yin, Astarte -- whatever her name -- she can be found in images throughout the history of art, from the Paleolithic era to the Renaissance, from the Baroque to the 21st century to come.
The Goddess, mixed media drawing.

Now, let's head back to school.
