St. Philip's College Child Check 2010

History

In the mid 1990’s St. Philip's College embarked on a joint project with local community service providers to identify children with developmental delays, and make appropriate referrals to agencies that provided early intervention services.  This effort continued for several years and sparked what is now known as Child Check.

Purpose

The focus of the event is to increase awareness of early childhood growth and development as well as impart the importance of early identification and intervention with children who manifest developmental delays.

 Objectives:

1.     To increase awareness of early childhood growth/development, and the importance of early identification and intervention with children who manifest developmental delays.

2.    To identify developmentally delayed children as early as possible by offering free screenings in the areas of dental, language, social, motor skills, cognition, and vision. Height and weight checks will also be provided.

3.    To provide parents with information regarding how they can best serve the needs of a child with developmental delays.

4.    To link parents of developmentally delayed children with appropriate community resources.

5.    To provide families of young children with information/resources regarding effective parenting, discipline, health/nutrition, child safety, family violence, and child care.
