Master Teacher Certification
The Master Teacher Certification Program is designed to provide quality learning experiences for new and experienced faculty members to actively engage in reflective and creative exercises and dialogues to enhance teacher effectiveness and student success. The certification program is based on the League for Innovation’s Getting Results (http://www.league.org/gettingresults), an online development resource that provides community college faculty with the basic tools for effective teaching and learning practices.

Each module includes activities and discussions, most of which are completed online within a Blackboard Vista course. Faculty members from different disciplines and the IIC Instructional Designer will facilitate the activities and discussions.

Master Teacher Program Face-to-Face Discussion Sessions
Two face-to-face discussion sessions will bring the participants together to reflect and discuss concepts and techniques introduced in the online topics. The sessions will be scheduled based on the majority of participants’ teaching schedules.
Session 1 – Will be held week of March 8
Session 2 – Will be held week of March 29
Required for Program Completion
- Attend the face-to-face discussions (participants should make every effort to attend at least one face-to-face discussion session)
- Participate in all assigned discussion and technology topic activities
- Submit a Lessons Learned/Reflections Report with responses to questions about your experience in the training program, about skills you learned in developing curriculum and assessment strategies, and about changes you plan to make in the way you approach teaching
Master Teacher Certification Renewal Process
Certified Master Teachers must renew their certification each year following the completion of the Master Teacher Certification program. To renew your certification, you must do one of the following.
- Attend and engage in six (6) hours of Professional Development in Teaching and Learning
- Provide a certificate of completion or other official documentation demonstrating completion of the professional development activity including the topic, date, hours attended, and name of the organization providing the activity.
- Earn three (3) graduate hours in education or your teaching discipline
- Submit proof of credit earned such as a grade report from the college or university.
- Present at a state or national conference
- Submit a copy of the conference program that lists your presentation topic and description as well as the conference name and the dates it was held.
To retain your Master Teacher certification, you must renew it each year by submitting the required documentation to the Instructional Innovation Center (Attention: Natasha Schmittou) no later than September 1st of the academic year in which you are seeking renewal.
