Seven Steps to Secure Your Computer Workshops

Today’s computing technology offers several advantages to both our careers and personal lives. As a result you must take steps to protect your personal data and information from cyber criminals. This workshop will demonstrate seven steps to secure your computer with security layered solutions.

CIS Students Diagnose Computer Problems at the OTS (IT) Service Center

As a part of the Cyber Security Awareness month, OTS and Computer Information Systems department will partner at the OTS Service Center, Moody Learning Center, Room 710 to run a week long service option Oct. 21 - 25 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. for students and employees of Alamo Colleges.

During this week, students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to bring in their broken or slow running computers for free evaluation. Under the guidance of professor Troy Touchette and OTS staff member Heather Cura students will evaluate computers that are brought in for evaluation.

At the end of the diagnoses, computers will be optimized through the use of a disk management and virus scanning software. In addition, students serving as PC Technicians will make recommendations to computer owners regarding hardware and software upgrades that can support optimal performance. During this event, a fund-raising activity will take place to support the Association of Information Technology Professionals, San Antonio College chapter students.

This program will offer CIS department students an opportunity to practice the skills that they have learned in their class and computer owners, in most cases will gain a better working computer.

IT Security @ Alamo Colleges

All San Antonio College faculty and staff are welcome to attend and are highly encouraged to bring their classes to this exciting presentation to help keep themselves and Alamo Colleges safe.

Arne Saustrup, Senior Operations Manager, District Information Technology Services, Alamo Colleges will provide an informative session on the latest security trends, threats, solutions and opportunities as it relates information security at Alamo Colleges. IT Security is an important topic for all San Antonio College employees and students in order to protect yourself and the College from security breaches. The presentation will include an overview of information security and also highlight top security threats. The event is sponsored by both Office of Technology Services (OTS) and the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Departments. Your participation is important in making this event successful.
