St. Philip's College invites all to attend the free San Antonio Youth Wind Ensemble "Heroes, Hope and Heritage - A Patriotic Concert" featuring the academy’s Jazz Ensemble on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium of the 600-seat Watson Fine Arts Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. The program concludes the ensemble's final 2013 summer season of free performances. Parking is free and admission is free.
The San Antonio Youth Wind Ensemble, known as SAYWE (pron: say-wee), is a three-year-old program of the Academy of Fine Arts operating from the college’s Division of Workforce Development and Continuing Education. The ensemble---under the music direction of resident conductor and college adjunct faculty member Albert Aguilar---consists of two ensembles of band students from 7th grade-to-age 20. Members come from five cities, 13 independent school districts, and home-schools in the college’s service area. Membership is by audition, said Aguilar.
The academy's Fine Arts Jazz Ensemble (AFA Jazz) will also perform on June 27.
