Secretary of Labor Solis Meets Students at the Alamo Colleges' Information Technology and Security Academy

Secretary of Labor HIlda L. Solis toured the Alamo Colleges' Workforce Center of Excellence on October 24. During her visit, she spoke with students from the Information Technology and Security Academy (ITSA), as well as Alamo Colleges' trustees and representatives from Lockheed Martin, Boeing and other local businesses who partner with the Alamo Colleges for the academy program and Workforce Solutions Alamo. Among the students were winners of the recent Cyber Patriot competition–a national event geared toward high school students that replicates real world cyber security situations faced by computer administrators.

The academy provides education, experience and job opportunities for high school students seeking to jump-start their futures and make a seamless transition to college and/or the workplace. Qualified students receive training in high-wage, in-demand occupations during their junior and senior years, earn one year of college credits at no cost and participate in a paid internship that introduces them to careers in local industries.

At the Alamo Colleges, high quality education and low costs provide exceptional value to students and alumni who are major contributors to the economy and culture of our community. For more information, visit our website at alamo.edu.
