AlamoADVISE Chosen as…

The Alamo Colleges District's AlamoADVISE initiative has been selected as an Examples of Excelencia finalist by Excelencia in Education, a national non-profit that accelerates Latino student success in higher education by providing data-driven analysis of the educational status of Latinos, and by promoting education policies and institutional practices that support their academic achievement.

AlamoADVISE Chosen as Excelencia Awards Finalist

The Alamo Colleges District's AlamoADVISE initiative has been selected as an Examples of Excelencia finalist by Excelencia in Education, a national non-profit that accelerates Latino student success in higher education by providing data-driven analysis of the educational status of Latinos, and by promoting education policies and institutional practices that support their academic achievement. Examples of Excelencia is an initiative honoring America’s top programs that expand academic opportunities and increase achievement for Latino students.

AlamoADVISE, under the auspices of Dr. Adelina S. Silva, vice chancellor for student success, is one of only six finalists in its category and 19 finalists total from more than 160 programs nominated. A selection committee of national experts will choose one program in each category as an Example of Excelencia.

As a finalist, AlamoADVISE will be recognized at the annual Celebración de Excelencia in Washington,D.C., included in the 2017 What Works for Latino Students in Higher Education compendium and added to the Excelencia in Education What Works online database. Since 2004, Excelencia in Education has recognzied programs such as AlamoADVISE for their work in serving Latino students in higher education.

Through AlamoADVISE, each students at all of the five Alamo Colleges District colleges is assigned an academic advisor and a faculty member as mentor, from entry to completion. This creates strong relationships between students, faculty and staff that contribute to students achieving their educational goals.

  • Alamo Colleges District Announces Sole Finalist for Chancellor

    The publicly elected governing Board of Trustees for the Alamo Colleges District met on February 8, 2018 and voted to name as the Sole Finalist for Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores. Dr. Flores will replace current Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie, who is retiring as of September 30, 2018 after 11 years of outstanding leadership of the district. Read More >
