Information Technology Grant


The Department of Labor, American Promise (TechWorks Grant) provides information technology training in several IT occupations at Alamo College District. This opportunity will provide a short career pathway to ensure students are able to start their careers as soon as possible.  This grant opportunity will be aimed at individuals who are currently unemployed or underemployed and would like to pursue a career in one of the following IT areas:

  • Computer Programmers (SOC 15- 1131)
  • Computer Systems Analysts (SOC 15-1121)
  • Software Developers (SOC 15-1132)
  • Web Developers (SOC 15-1134)
  • Computer Applications (All Other) (SOC 15-1199)


IT Training Courses funded by the TechWorks Grant:

  • Network +
  • Security +
  • Scrum Master Certification
  • Python – Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer
  • CCNA Cisco Certification
  • Project Management Program (PMP)

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • 16 years of age, must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Unemployed - (an individual who is without a job and who is seeking employment and is available to work)
  • Underemployed - (individuals who are not currently connected to a full-time job commensurate with the individual’s level of education, skills, or wage and/or salary earned previously, or who have obtained only episodic, short-term, or part-time employment)
  • Some College/No Degree
  • Veteran Priority
