What is the Alamo Colleges Educator Preparation Program?
The Alamo Colleges Educator Preparation Program is an alternative teacher certification program within the Alamo Colleges District. Our program prepares candidates to become certified teachers in the state of Texas.
What is Alternative Certification?
Alternative certification is a non-traditional route to teacher certification that allows one to teach in the classroom. It requires candidates to already hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Still, there are Career and Technical Education options, such as in Health Science 6-12 and Trade and Industrial (T&I) Education 6-12, which require licensure, a set amount of full-time wage-earning experience, and at least a high school diploma/associate’s degree.
Fast-Paced CurriculumOur state-accredited program can be completed in as little as 9 months. Competitive PricingTotal cost for the program is $4,993 (Trade and Industry is $4,368.) Payments are on a class-by-class basis, and our program qualifies for aid for veterans and through city grants. Please view the Department page for aid eligibility. High Teacher Success RateOur program has a 93% completion rate. We have recommended over 300 successful teachers in the past 12 years for their standard certificate. Small Class SizesClass sizes cap at an average of 10 people. These classes allow for more student engagement, better contact with our instructors, and flexibility with scheduling. Supported Field ExperiencesField observations are conducted by certified former administrators. Additionally, field experiences are ample opportunities for feedback and growth. Focus on Effective Teaching PracticesOur students are seeking to impact future generations. The effective teaching practices provided throughout our program allows them to do so. |
