Second chances and bright futures—Jacqueline is empowered by belief, driven by gratitude
Jacqueline DeLeon chose to continue her education at the Alamo Colleges because it provided her with a second chance—an opportunity to build a better future for herself and her family. As the first in her family to graduate from high school and attend college, she has received tremendous support from the Alamo Colleges in pursuing her educational and professional goals.
Jacqueline was recently awarded the Greehey Family Foundation Scholarship, which honors and supports first-generation college students who are working hard to transform their futures through education. Jacqueline was selected for this award based on her academic achievements, dedication, and long-term commitment to her career goals.
She is currently studying biology and working toward completing credit hours before transferring to the University of the Incarnate Word’s Feik School of Pharmacy. The Greehey Family Foundation Scholarship is helping ease the financial burden of higher education, allowing her to focus more fully on her academic journey.
"I would like to thank the donors who have taken the time to give back to students who are given this second chance at life. Scholarships not only take the financial burden off of the weight of school, but they offer us freedom to study and to know that we are able to go through college without the financial burden of it. ”
With the support of scholarships, Jacqueline plans to take advantage of tutoring, volunteer opportunities, and shadowing experiences—all while working additional hours to help support her family with household expenses. This scholarship not only recognizes her accomplishments as a first-generation student but also empowers her to make a lasting impact on her family and her community.
