Kenny lafond

From humble beginnings to high-tech solutions—Kenny is using scholarship to transform potential into purpose

Meet Kenny Lafond, a recipient of the San Antonio Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Endowed Scholarship, and an international student from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, who is pursuing his dream of a career in cybersecurity at St. Philip's College. Motivated by a deep understanding of the power of education and the sacrifices his family has made to support his journey, Kenny moved to San Antonio to pursue higher education and create a more stable future for himself and his loved ones back home. Despite the instability and challenges in Haiti, he remains focused and determined. His dedication reflects the values of leadership, excellence, and community impact that the scholarship seeks to honor.

"This scholarship comes as a tremendous support, especially as I navigate through a challenging semester."

At St. Philip’s College, Kenny is thriving as an active member of the Cyber Tigers, Collegiate 100, and the Honors Society. He also gives back to the community by volunteering with the American Red Cross and participating in professional development webinars.

Despite a demanding schedule, Kenny finds time to enjoy reading, playing chess online, watching anime, and playing mobile games—simple joys that help him stay grounded and balanced.

Driven by a passion for creating innovative solutions to protect individuals and organizations from digital threats, Kenny is especially committed to serving underrepresented communities like the one he comes from. His mission is not only technical, but deeply personal—empowering those who often face systemic barriers in accessing digital security and protection. Upon completing his studies at Alamo Colleges, Kenny plans to transfer to a university within the UT System to continue his education, with the goal of earning a master’s degree and ultimately building his own commercial cybersecurity system.

Thanks to scholarships provided by generous donors, including the S.A. Chapter of The Links, Kenny has been able to continue his education without increasing the financial strain on his single mother. "My heartfelt gratitude goes out to all who have contributed to making this scholarship possible - This scholarship comes as a tremendous support." he says.
