Empowered by Education: Lisa Guerrero’s Journey to a Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management
Lisa Guerrero is a dedicated student parent who strives to set an example for her children—proving that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Balancing school, work, and parenting has come with its challenges, but receiving the General Stevens Scholarship has eased the financial strain and allowed her to stay focused on achieving her goals.
Lisa was selected to receive the General Stevens Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding involvement and leadership on campus. She is a well-respected student leader, actively engaged in organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa, the Student Government Association, and the Student Leadership Institute. Most recently, she joined the Foundation Scholarship Ambassadors program, where she continues to further the mission of educational access and impact in her community.
Lisa graduated from San Antonio College in Summer 2024 with an Associate of Applied Science in Human Resource Management and earned an additional certificate in Fall 2024.
“When I first came to the Alamo Colleges, all I wanted to do was earn an associate degree and go into my career but after becoming so involved and engaged on campus with so many amazing people and organizations, I was inspired to continue my degree.”
Now pursuing her Bachelor of Applied Technology in Operations Management at Palo Alto College, Lisa is excited to advance in her field and use her education to build a brighter future for her family while contributing to her community.
Having once experienced homelessness and food insecurity, Lisa understands firsthand the impact of compassion and support. The kindness shown to her during difficult times motivates her to give back and help others who face similar challenges.
Lisa’s professional ambitions are as strong as her personal drive. She hopes to work for a nonprofit organization where she can use her human resources background to serve others, and she ultimately aspires to open her own business. Guided by resilience, gratitude, and a commitment to helping those in need, Lisa continues to turn her challenges into opportunities for lasting impact.
