Parent. Scholar. Changemaker. Tanatha Villar brings compassion and commitment
Tanatha Villar, recipient of the Empowerment Center EC Transition Scholarship, is a devoted mother, student, and community member whose unwavering commitment to family and education drives her forward. Raised in a home where college was seen as a vital path to a better future, Tanatha always envisioned pursuing higher education. However, like many, her path wasn’t linear.
After becoming a mother at 24 and supporting her family by helping to manage her husband’s restaurant, Tanatha’s plans were delayed. Following the passing of her husband, she knew it was time to reignite her educational journey—not just for herself, but as an example for her children of how education can provide stability, security, and purpose.
"I want to express my deepest gratitude for your generosity; it has made a significant difference in my life, and I pledge to make the most of this opportunity."
Now a student at San Antonio College majoring in Business Management with a Financial Management option, Tanatha is on track to graduate in May 2028. She brings her passion for learning to every aspect of her college experience. This semester, she set a professional goal to become a stronger public speaker and enhance her proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, with an eye on a future in marketing. Academically, she is committed to improving her study habits through mentorship as part of the SAC Faculty-Student Mentor Program.
Tanatha has embraced student life fully. Since beginning her studies in 2023, she has been an active member of the Student Parent Group, was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK), and has volunteered with the Empowerment Center, including organizing bookmark sales for a campus event. Her warm personality and drive to help others shine through in every involvement—whether serving as a yoga guide at a student wellness event or winning second place in a student engagement contest.
She shares that one of the most impactful parts of her experience at SAC has been the support from faculty and the accommodations team, which have helped her stay on track without stress or judgment. With every class, connection, and challenge, Tanatha is not only achieving academic goals—she’s transforming adversity into impact.
