From Workforce to Classroom: Wilhelm Campos Begins a New Chapter

Growing up, Wilhelm Campos was encouraged by his parents to pursue opportunities they never had. His father, who began working at a very young age to help support their family, always emphasized the value of education. His mother, who dreamed of seeing him go to college, often reminded him of how education could open doors to a better future. Wilhelm is proud to be on the path to becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree.

After being out of school for 20 years, Wilhelm returned to college as a first-generation, non-traditional student ready to begin a new chapter. He is currently pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Accounting, drawn to the field for its structure, critical thinking, and the opportunity to help others achieve financial stability.

Looking back, Wilhelm recognizes that his earlier challenges in school stemmed not from ability, but from self-doubt. Over the years, he gained perspective and resilience—particularly through his 20-year career in a distribution center, including 15 years in management. Those experiences helped him build confidence, adaptability, and a strong work ethic, all of which he now brings to his academic journey.

"By returning to school, I am laying the foundation for a career built on integrity, expertise, and meaningful contributions. This step is not just about earning my accounting degree, it’s about shaping a future where I can make a difference and build a career that reflects my values and skills."

Wilhelm plans to continue his education at Texas A&M University–San Antonio to earn his Bachelor’s degree in accounting and ultimately obtain his CPA license.

Receiving the Texas Educational Foundation/Jerome and Adrienne Weynand Endowed Scholarship has strengthened his determination and provided meaningful support as he works toward achieving his long-term goals.
