Are you ready for online learning? Answer the following questions to help you decide whether or not online courses are suitable for you.

1. I am self-motivated and capable of working independently.
2. I manage my study time well to complete assignments on time.
3. I am willing to devote 10-15 hours per week to study for my online course(s).
4. I am NOT easily distracted with my surroundings while I study.
5. I am comfortable in an environment in which visiting a college campus is infrequent or not at all.
6. I understand how to use basic computer technologies (mouse, keyboard, printer, etc.).
7. I am comfortable with basic computer operations (managing files and folders – create, copy/paste, delete – using standard word processing software, etc.).
8. I have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection (cable, DSL, etc.).
9. I am able to use a web browser to navigate the internet (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.).
10. I am comfortable communicating with my instructor(s)/peers in a primarily online format (email, discussion boards, etc.).

What does your score mean?

0-10: You may be better suited for traditional, face-to-face classroom courses.

11-20: Although face-to-face courses are more appropriate for you, if you decide to take online courses realize adjustments need to be made to maximize your success. You may want to explore hybrid (partially online) and/or web-enhanced courses as a possible alternative.

21-30: Online courses are suitable for you, and are ready to explore the online courses offered at the Alamo Colleges.
