Alamo Colleges’ Students Alerted About Financial Aid Scams
May 27, 2020
Alamo Colleges District is warning students of a scam in which a person is contacting students by phone and posing as an Alamo Colleges financial aid employee.
The following scenario has been reported, but additional approaches could be occurring.
- Student is contacted repeatedly from an individual, calling from a 1-888 number, claiming he is the main administrator for financial aid at one of the Alamo Colleges. Student is harassed and urged to send money.
The security and privacy of student information is a high priority at the Alamo Colleges District. Alamo Colleges District may occasionally contact students via email, text or phone call, but students would be directed to an Alamo Colleges website to make payments and “over the phone” payments are never requested.
These scams have been reported to the authorities and are currently being investigated. If students receive a phone call about a financial aid matter and are unsure that it is a legitimate contact from the Alamo Colleges, hang up and call 210-21-ALAMO to speak to our financial aid department. If a student thinks they may have been the victim of a scam, call the ACD Police Department non-emergency line at 210-485-0099.
