Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine has ranked San Antonio College (SAC), Northwest Vista College (NVC) and Palo Alto College (PAC) in several categories on the list for Top 25 Community Colleges for Hispanics.

The list recognizes community colleges across the country that serve the highest number of Hispanic/Latino students.

NVC, SAC and PAC are all Hispanic-Serving Institutions and each have a current Hispanic enrollment of than 64% or higher.

The Alamo Colleges District is recognized as follows:

  • SAC ranks #14, NVC #15 and PAC #25 on the list of the Top 25 Community Colleges in the nation for Hispanic/Latino students (using data from Fall 2020)
  • NVC ranks #3, SAC #5 and PAC #6 for associate degrees granted to Hispanic/Latino students in the southern region (using data from 2019-2020)
  • NVC ranks #11 and SAC #13 for associate degrees granted to Hispanic/Latino students (using data from 2019-2020)

“We are honored to have several of our colleges listed in these rankings,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “This list serves as a testament to the hard work of our faculty and staff to lift our students despite the many challenges they face and the collective work being done to be the best in the nation in Student Success and Performance Excellence.”

Hispanic Outlook said over the past year, community colleges have faced enormous challenges as they navigate a pandemic, and at the same time, as they strive to provide their students – who are frequently first-generation learners, full or part-time workers, single parents and minorities – with the best opportunities for improving their skills and moving forward in their careers.
