Vocational Nursing

The St. Philip's College Vocational Nursing program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to award a Certificate of Completion in Vocational Nursing.

Licensure:

Upon completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) through the Texas Board of Nursing. Passing this exam certifies that graduate to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Admission Requirements:

The requirements for admission into the St. Philip's College Vocational Nursing Program are in accordance with the Alamo Colleges admission policies, admission policies of the Vocational Nursing program and policies specified by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON).

Complete and submit the admission application to the Alamo Colleges District. Go the AlamoENROLL for more information. Select the approprate type of student you will be. You will then receive a series of e-mails with directions on how to log-in to your Alamo Colleges Education Services (ACES) account to view the "Start Here" Tab for next steps and required GO FAAR and TEST PREP modules if requested.

Admission to St. Philip's College is required before applying to the Vocational Nursing Program.
The Apply Texas application is for admission to the college, not for the admission to the nursing program. You must complete a seperate application for the nursing program.

If you are an Alamo Colleges District student, you must see your advisor and complete a Change of Primary Institution for St. Philip's College.

If you are a student coming from another institution, you must complete the Apply Texas application to become a student at St. Philip's College. There are financial aid implications if St. Philip's College is not your primary institution.

Prerequisite Requirements:

Although not required, we strongly encourage completing the following courses prior to admission:

• Anatomy & Physiology I&II (BIOL2401 and BIOL2402) or BIOL2404
• Nutrition (one of the following: BIOL1322, BIOL1323, FDNS1305)
• PSYC 2314 Developmental Psychology Across the Lifespan
• HITT1305 Medical Terminology

Although not required, we strongly encourage completing the following courses prior to admissions:

• Anatomy & Physiology I&II (BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402) or BIOL 2404
• Nutrition (one of the following: BIOL1322 or FDNS 1305)
• Developmental Psychology across the Lifespan (PSYC 2314)

Application Process:

Important Update: Due to COVID-19 preventive measures, at this time and until further notice, applications to the Vocational Nursing Program for both our Main Campus and New Braunfels Extension Campus must be mailed to St. Philip's College at the address listed below.

Read carefully through the program Information Packet and complete the Application Packet - both are found in the links below. The completed application packet and required documents must be placed in a 9 x 12 brown envelope and mailed to the St. Philip's College Nursing Education Department. Applications for Fall 2021 must be submitted by June 16.

All applicants must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Exam and submit results along with the completed application packet. The college offers on-campus TEAS testing at its MLK Campus. Information on registration and preparation for the TEAS Exam can be found here.
