American History in Video

American History in Video provides the largest and richest collection of video available online for the study of American history, with 2,000 hours and more than 5,000 titles. The collection allows researchers to analyze historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and important documentaries. This release now provides 6,002 titles, equaling approximately 1616 hours.

Background Notes
Publications that include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of independent states, some dependencies, and areas of special sovereignty. The Background Notes are updated/revised by the Office of Electronic Information and Publications of the Bureau of Public Affairs as they are received from the Department's regional bureaus.

ERIC – Education Resources Center
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and resources. The database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. The database contains more than 1,194,000 records and links to more than 100,000 full-text documents from ERIC. To check for access to full-text content from journals, search the journal titles in A to Z Online Journal Locator.

ERIC Database via EBSCO
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and resources. The database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia
The Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia database indexes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics. Full text for each record may be easily accessed by double clicking on the topic from the display. The database contains various images, offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas.

Gale Science in Context
Provides access to articles from journals, magazines, newspapers, reference sources, as well as multimedia and links to websites covering all areas of science.

Gale Virtual Reference Library

General OneFile 
A general database that includes newspapers, magazines, and academic journals, with more emphasis on non-scholarly resources. Contains more than 9,200 titles and coverage back to 1980.

General Reference Center GOLD
General Reference Center Gold provides access to general interest magazines, business periodicals, reference books, maps, historical images, and newspaper articles. Records are available with a combination of indexing, abstracts, image, or full-text formats.

GPO Access
GPO Access is a service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government, including information from the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches.

GreenFILE
GreenFILE(TM) is a freely accessible research database focusing on the relationship between human beings and the environment, with well-researched but accessible information on topics ranging from global warming to recycling to alternate fuel sources and beyond. Comprised of scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports, GreenFILE offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the ecology. GreenFILE's initial release will include A&I for more than 600 titles, including comprehensive coverage - from to volume 1, issue 1 to present - for Bioscience (back to 1964), Conservation Biology (back to 1987), i>Journal of Ecology (back to 1913) and Journal of Environmental Planning & Management (back to 1948). The total number of records is approximately 295,000, and full text is provided for more than 4,600 records from open access titles.

Handbook of Texas
The Handbook of Texas, provided by the Texas State Historical Association is a multidisciplinary encyclopedia of Texas history, geography, and culture. Health Source: Consumer Edition
This database provides access to nearly 80 full-text consumer health magazines, searchable full-text health-related pamphlets, and over 120 full-text health reference books. It covers topics such as AIDS, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol information, nutrition, women's health issues, etc.  You will also find Clinical Reference Systems reports (in English and Spanish) and Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary.

This resource provides nearly 550 scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Journals are always included from volume 1, issue 1 and include previous and related titles. The most recently published issues (past 3-5 years) are not available.

Middle Search Plus (Geared for middle schoolers)
Middle Search Plus contains full text for more than 140 popular, middle school magazines. All full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Additionally, Middle Search Plus contains primary source documents including Essential Documents in American History, reference books including the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia and American Heritage® Dictionary, 4th Edition from Houghton Mifflin, the Encyclopedia of Animals, and an Image Collection of 276,132 photos, maps, and flags.

Natural & Alternative Treatments (NAT) is a complementary and alternative medicine database designed specifically for the consumer health researcher. Updated weekly, this database provides current information that will satisfy an ever-growing demand for accurate, unbiased information on natural health. The database contains more than 700 evidence-based articles covering medical conditions, alternative therapies, herbs and supplements, functional foods, drug interactions, and homeopathy. The articles contained in the database are based on double-blind, placebo-controlled studies and other forms of meaningful scientific evidence. At present, more than 12,000 such studies are cited in the material, and new studies are added regularly. OCLC WorldCat
The world's most comprehensive bibliography, with more than 86 million bibliographic records and nearly 1.2 billion holdings representing the collections of more than 10,000 libraries, over 400 languages, and all types of materials ranging from stone tablets to electronic books. WorldCat is updated daily and is now easier to search than ever. Recent enhancements include the ability to search by Library of Congress or Dewey Decimal Classification numbers and to limit searches by material types, audiences, and material formats. WorldCat includes information from before 1,000 BC to the present with thousands of records containing evaluative content such as tables of contents, cover art, book summaries and notes about the authors. It uses the Library of Congress Subject Headings and several other terminologies as its thesauri.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context
Covers controversial topics. (1867-1970) – provide digital access to more than 660,000 large-scale, historical maps of over 12,000 American towns and cities.

Texas Reference Center
Texas Reference Center is a Texas-specific product designed specifically for school and public libraries. The database is comprised of periodicals, reference books, reports, and other content relevant to the state. Texas Reference Center contains 30 full-text periodicals, 100 full-text reference books, several Texas newspapers, and much more.
