FREE COVID Testing at NVC

COVID-TEST-SIGNUP.pngTesting will be conducted in Mountain Laurel Hall, room MLH-101B (except for Sept. 15, when testing will be in MLH-203) on the following days/times:

  • Mondays 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm
  • Tuesdays 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm 
  • Wednesdays No Testing
  • Thursdays 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Fridays 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

REGISTER PRIOR TO TEST 

Register to qualify for testing prior to arrival.

  1. Go to register.communitylabstesting.org to register for COVID testing.
    • Select "Site Type: School"
    • Select "Site Assigned: ACD Northwest Vista College" (you can start by just typing "acd" or "Nor" and select from the resulting list). 
      NOTE: Students and employees will need to VERIFY their phone number and email address prior to continuing.
    • Once registered, you will receive a unique QR code, which will be required when you arrive for testing.

  2. GO TO TEST SITE at one of the scheduled day/time slots listed above - Each person must have their QR code ready for testing when they arrive. You must show the QR code at the testing site. You can either show the code on your phone or print it out and bring it with you to the testing site.

REPORT EACH and EVERY potential exposure, confirmed exposure, positive test result, and onset of COVID-19 symptoms is IMMEDIATELY, whether the affected person (individual who has been exposed to COVID-19, tested positive for COVID-19, or is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms) has been onsite at NVC or is working/learning remotely. Reports need to be submitted for employees working onsite or remotely, students learning onsite or remotely, vendors onsite within the past two weeks, and community members or others onsite within the past two weeks.

ANYONE can submit a report. It is preferable for the affected person to submit a report, but anyone can submit a report regarding an affected person. The MOST IMPORTANT thing is that a report is submitted IMMEDIATELY.

It is CRITICAL that a report is made whether the affected person has been onsite or remote (vendors, community members, or others onsite within the past two weeks) for several reasons.

  • Access requests and access lists are reviewed before submission to verify that no one on the list is an affected person.
  • Reports involving individuals who have been onsite trigger several follow-up actions, including close contact identification, disinfection of physical spaces, Risk Management follow-up, quarantine timeframes, access schedules, notifications, etc.
  • Reports involving individuals who have not been onsite trigger several follow-up actions, including Risk Management follow-up, quarantine timeframes, access schedules, notifications, etc.

 

FOLLOW-UP INSTRUCTIONS FOR AFFECTED PERSONS FOLLOWING REPORTING

  • Employees should stay home, notify their supervisor, and RESPOND to any phone calls or messages from Garvin Dansby, NVC coordinator of College Risk Management, the NVC Risk Management team, and Alamo Colleges District Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Students should stay home, notify their instructor, and RESPOND to any phone calls or messages from Garvin Dansby, NVC coordinator of College Risk Management, NVC Risk Management team, and Alamo Colleges District Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Employees working onsite and students attending classes onsite – DO NOT come to campus until officially released to do so by Risk Management.

Laptop Loaners/Device Checkout Available for Employees

Current Northwest Vista College Employees who are working or teaching this summer or fall semester qualify for loaner laptops and device checkout of other technology equipment.

To obtain an NVC laptop or other device, employees need to fill out the following form and wait to receive notification from Information Technology. An appointment will be set up for technology pick up. Please allow 2 - 3 business days for your request to be processed.

COVID-19 and Accessing Library Resources and Services

  

Netiquette

Netiquette, simply defined, means etiquette on the Internet. In an online course, you will be speaking through writing both to fellow students and instructors. It is imperative to communicate well and professionally. The golden rule of netiquette in an online class or environment is, do not do or say online what you would not do or say offline. 

Netiquette Guidelines
  1. Be friendly, positive and self-reflective. When people cannot see you, and do not know you, feelings can be hurt if you are not careful how you express yourself. Think before you write. Do not respond when you feel angry. Wait. Write it down somewhere and come back to it. When you do, you may find that you no longer feel the same way, after you have had time to reflect. If you still feel the need to be heard, then take time to reread and rewrite it in terms that are easily embraced. When you feel a critique is necessary, express yourself in a positive tone.
  2. Use proper language and titles. Do not use “text” slang or even profane words in an online education environments they will likely sound offensive to the reader. Leave the characters like smiley faces, and instant message abbreviations out. They may be interpreted as childish or too casual for the online education environment. Do not refer to your professor as "Doc" or by his or her first name, unless it is acceptable with him or her to do so. Do not use caps lock when writing, as it insinuates yelling. Always say please and thank you.
  3. Use effective communication. This takes practice and thoughtful writing. Try to speak and write clearly at all times. Reread before you respond. Define and restate your words when necessary. Correct a misunderstanding right away. Be mindful of chosen words and joking.
  4. Ask for clarification. If you are unsure of what was said, or the instructor's directions, or are trying to interpret a person's expressions, then ask again. Do not sit in silence feeling confused or offended. A simple way to do this is to say (or write), "I did not understand...", always keeping the sense of the misunderstanding on yourself.

Are classes cancelled at all of the Alamo Colleges District colleges?

No, classes are not cancelled. They are being conducted on campus and remotely.

Will faculty and staff still be working on the college campuses?

Yes, college faculty and staff will be working on college campus with a number of them working remotely.

Does this apply to KTC in Kerrville or other satellite locations?

Yes. It currently applies to all of the Alamo Colleges District's locations, including campuses and off-site centers.

Will this affect commencement?

Yes, the following changes have been made to the commencement:

  • Conferring of degrees and certificates WILL NOT be affected. Degrees and certificates will be awarded to students who have satisfactorily completed all requirements of their respective degrees and/or certificates.

  • Your Advisor is the main point of contact as you progress through your degree and prepare for graduation (refer to the Advising section of this page for information on how to contact your advisor). Career Services can help you develop a resume and provide tips for interviewing.

  • Visit Career Coach to research careers and local jobs that align with your certificate or degree program. You can also access our transfer advising guides to ensure your courses transfer and apply.
Will students still be able to see their advisors?

Yes, advisors are available and hours of operation can be found on the Return to Campus: Students webpage.
