Book Theme: Space Adventures

Each day, participants will have an opportunity to share the stories and adventures they enjoyed from a book in their private collection, borrowed from the library, or eBooks they have read online. Allowing children to choose their own reading material gives them ownership and allows them to choose books that inspire their interests, however to maintain some consistency, we ask that your child choose a book that follows this weeks theme which is Space Adventures.  

Books at this level can be easy-to-read picture books and must be a different book each day for the 4-day session (meaning: four books total). Participants will strengthen their skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and confidence in literature subjects.

NOTE: Books are NOT provided. You may register for one week session or all three weeks.

Read and share your favorite Bluebonnet Award-winning book with your fellow participants in a class designed to foster reading comprehension, and expand vocabulary. Bluebonnet books are exciting timeless stories that will hold your interest page-after-page. Participants will read chapters from their chosen Bluebonnet Book and share the developments of the story with the rest of the class. Each week consists of 4 sessions (four days) and provides a place where children can take ownership of what they are reading, while also hearing about other stories that they might not have selected themselves.

Class is designed as a launch pad for those who have always wanted to read the original, award-winning books by J.K. Rowling that feature films and theme parks around the world have been created from.

Computer Science - Basics

Entering 2nd and 3rd grade

In this fun workshop, participants will engage in a variety of activities that teach important critical thinking computer concepts like sequencing, loops, and debugging. Participants will explore the basics of mobile app design and will end this session by designing their own phone app! The student–created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be used on any mobile device or computer

NOTE: Publishing to app stores is not included. The 3-hour daily sessions consist of 1.5 hours class instruction + 1.5 hours self-paced project development, with personal assistance as needed.

This easy and interactive session is packed with fun learning activities that demonstrates how data is stored in the computer and how they actually communicate using binary code. Participants will learn to use binary code to create unique images and jewelry they can keep.

In this course students will quickly learn the basics of robotics including navigation, sensors, loops and more. Each participant will establish an online account to track their progress. They will also be able to connect with other students online to participate in competitions and showcase their work.
