First Time In College Students
Below are the steps to enroll in classes at Northwest Vista College. Download our enrollment checklist or click each item below for additional information. Contact Vista Central with any questions.
- The enrollment process can take 3-4 weeks from completion of an application through registration/orientation.
- All enrollment steps (including Orientation and Advising) must be completed before August 20th, 2018, for students wishing to register for classes that begin on August 27th, 2018.
- Students who are not able to complete their enrollment process on time may register for the Flex II term, which will begin in October.
Application And Enrollment Steps
All programs of study at NVC are grouped into five institutes that match students’ areas of interest with career goals, giving them a clear path to the career they have in mind. It’s designed to help students take control of planning for their future.
When students submit their application to NVC, they will be asked to select an institute and a pre-major. It is best best to explore your pre-major and NVC's Institutes before you apply. Once you apply, we can help you identify your math pathway.
All students will submit an application through ApplyTexas. Please allow five business days for processing. Once your application is processed, you will receive two emails – a confirmation from ApplyTexas and an email from NVC with instructions on accessing your student portal called ACES.
First Time in College Students who are still in high school will submit one official transcript at the time of application that includes six complete semesters. They will also submit a final official transcript after graduation that reflects their graduation date.
First Time In College students who have already graduated from high school will submit one official final transcript that reflects their graduation date.
GED graduates must submit their test scores report issued by the state where the test was taken and passed.
Home school transcripts must be notarized.
Foreign transcripts must be evaluated and translated from any company listed at www.naces.org. The original foreign transcript must accompany the evaluated document.
Students may submit official transcripts three ways:
- In Person: Hand-deliver transcripts to the Records and Residency Office in CCC 100 or at Vista Central. Transcripts MUST be in a sealed envelope. Open transcripts will not be accepted.
- Electronically: Schools can send electronic PDF transcripts to NVC through a secure server such as Parchment, ESCRIPT-SAFE, or National Student Clearinghouse and Transcripts using email address
- By Mail: Mail sealed official transcripts to NVC at 3535 N. Ellison Dr., San Antonio, TX 78251. Please mark transcripts “ATTN: Records and Transcripts.”
After you have received your email from NVC that contains your ACES username, you will need to log in to your ACES account. You may also obtain your username by visiting the ACES website and clicking on “Get My ACES Username.”
Follow the instructions for the default password to log in for the first time.

This step only applies to students under the age of 22.
In AlamoNAVIGATE, select "Turn In Shot Records" and click on the "Secure Site" link to upload your documents. There is a $10 processing fee. Please allow three business days for processing.
Shot records must contain:
- The student's name
- The student's date of birth
- The date the shot was administered
- The stamp or signature of the administering physician
Students taking only online classes may submit a waiver form in person at the Records Office.
The Go FAARR module is required for all new students, and the Test Prep module is required for all students who are required to take the TSI placement test. Students who are not required to take the TSI may skip the Test Prep module.
After you activate your AlamoNAVIGATE checklist, click "complete Go FAARR and Test Prep Modules" on your MyPath.
Click on “Enroll” and then “Incomplete” to access and complete the modules. Please note that the modules may not be compatible with all smart phones or tablets and may need to be completed on a desktop computer.
Take the TSI assessment exam to determine your placement into college-level English and Math courses.
Students may be exempted from the TSI with qualifying scores or documents, which may include SAT/ACT scores; AP, Dual Credit, or CLEP credits; college prep courses completed in high school; or qualifying previous college English and Math courses.
Visit AlamoNAVIGATE and click on "Take Your Placement Test" for information on hours, exemptions, and frequently asked questions.
College Prep Courses: For students taking college prep courses in high school, these classes cannot be used to exempt you from placement testing until we have received the final high school transcript. Please speak with the Testing Office for questions.
Note: This step may not apply to all students.
Students who take the TSI and do not place at college level will be required to take a refresher course before registering for classes. AlamoNAVIGATE will display your scores and more information on scheduling a refresher course.
Refresher courses are offered at no charge but save time and money and offer the opportunity to move into higher level courses. Refresher courses must be scheduled in person. Visit the Readiness Center to schedule your refresher course.
Visit the Readiness Center in the Cypress Campus Center (CCC) Room 200.
First Time in College Students will register for classes during their New Student Orientation (NSO). Once all enrollment steps are complete, visit AlamoNAVIGATE and click "Sign Up for New Student Orientation."
Please note that ALL enrollment steps MUST be completed prior to attending New Student Orientation or you will not be permitted to remain in the session and will have to reschedule for a new date.
