Community Math SDEV Courses

NVC SDEV FOR EDUCATION MAJORS

In this program, Education majors will take Student Development (SDEV) courses infused with Growth Mindset math skills/topics. The tailored course helps future teachers know what they will be studying in upcoming Education courses.

Programs

PEER TUTORING PROGRAM

As a Peer Tutor, we will enhance your math skills by placing you in a MATH 1314 course where you will host tutoring sessions for those students during and outside of that class.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Passed MATH 1314 with a "B" or better with a faculty recommendation.
  • Have your instructor send a Statement of Recommendation to the Peer Tutor coordinator.
  • Score at least a "70" on the arithmetic pre-test.

Peer Tutors earn $500 per semester.

 

PARENT TUTORING PROGRAM

As a Parent Tutor, you will gain real-world experience by tutoring parents in the community to better enhance not only the parents' knowledge of elementary math concepts, but to also aid in your tutoring and teaching skills.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Passed MATH 1314 with a "B" or better with a faculty recommendation.
  • Have your instructor send a Statement of Recommendation to the Parent Tutor coordinator.
  • Score at least a "70" on the arithmetic pre-test.

Parent Tutors earn $350 per semester.

Enrichment Workshops

NVC MATH ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP

This online workshop is aimed to help you understand your current math knowledge and is a requirement if you want to participate in our Peer Tutor and Parent Tutor program.

In this workshop, you'll also learn about and work on math concepts that you will be teaching in your future classrooms.

Completers of this workshop will earn $100.

All Education majors are eligible to enroll.

NVC SPANISH ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP

In this workshop delivered online, you'll learn how to better teach in a community of Spanish-speaking individuals.

This workshop will help you learn and teach math in Spanish.

Completers of this workshop will earn $250.

All Education majors are eligible to enroll.

NVC INVESTIGATE YOUR LEARNING WORKSHOP

In this workshop, you'll study and work on the foundations of learning.

Education majors will earn $100 for completion of the workshop. ONLY Education majors are eligible for the stipend payment, although all college majors are eligible to enroll.
