Do I have to sign-up for a NSO/FTIC ADVISING Session?
Yes. This mandatory session must be completed prior to course registration if this is your first time in college (Dual Credit as well). Please see sign-up eligibility.
What are the expected outcomes from this session?
Get Acclimated to NVC
Our Orientation staff will introduce you to important resources and services that will help you be successful at NVC. An optional tour will also be offered after your advising session for those who want to get more familiar with the campus.
Register for Classes
Advisors will assist you with registering online during your group advising session. Bacterial Meningitis vaccination documentation must be uploaded through ACES a minimum of 3 business days prior to your advising session to register. (Due to third-party processing, there may be registration delays if not submitted more than 3 business days before your session. It is recommended that you select a later session date if you are unable to meet the submission requirement to guarantee orientation participation).
Pay Tuition and Fees
You will be assisted in setting up payment for registered courses. Tuition payment must be made with credit card or check online via your ACES account (Cash only at Bursar’s Office). Payment in full or by installments must be made by the payment deadlines or you will be dropped from your classes.
Who is eligible to attend a NSO/FTIC ADVISING Session?
If you have met the following criteria, please proceed to sign-up for your session:
- You have applied for the term you wish to attend (e.g. Fall 2016) as a First Time in College Student
- All items in your ACES "Start Here" tab are complete
- You have valid assessment scores on file (e.g. TAKS, TSI)
- You have completed the required Refresher Course(s), if applicable.
- You have uploaded Bacterial Meningitis documentation and received an approved status from Magnus Health (to ensure session participation, we recommend you complete this step at least 5 business days prior to your scheduled session)

High School College Prep Courses
Please Read: Important Information on High School College Prep Courses
If you are currently enrolled or have completed a college prep Math and/or English course
at your high school, you must submit an official FINAL high school transcript
to Admissions and Records in order to have your placement scores updated. Once
you have submitted your FINAL transcript, you must see a walk-in advisor to
request updated placement information if needed. Please note it is your
responsibility to change your schedule appropriately should your college prep
course change your placement status. If you have additional questions about the
College Prep course, please contact an Online Advisor through BOLDCHAT or visit
a walk-in advisor.
Please Read: Important Information on Mandatory Refresher
A Refresher Course will be required for students that are placed into development based on their
TSI Assessment results. Refresher courses are at no cost and provide a second
opportunity to move into a higher developmental course or a college-level
course. The required refresher must be done prior to enrolling into the Group
Advising and New Student Orientation. Please take this into consideration in
order to provide enough time to register for classes before registration
