Northwest Vista College Announces New Fast Track Programs in Networking and Fitness

Students Can Earn Certificates, Credentials in 12 Weeks to Prep for Certification Exams

(San Antonio) - Dec. 14 - Starting in January, students can earn in-demand credentials for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) programs in just 12 weeks at Northwest Vista College. The awards prepare students to take exams for nationally recognized certifications.

For the Spring 2022 semester, NVC is fast-tracking its Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate program and some of its Fitness Trainer (FITT) courses that lead to industry-recognized certifications. For instance, instead of taking two, eight-week terms to get the CCNA certificate, NVC students can get it in just one semester thereby saving time and money.

For Personal Fitness Trainer, students will have the opportunity to complete 11 hours of courses within a single semester to prepare them for the Certified Personal Fitness Trainer certification exam given through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). This fast-track program will reduce the number of weeks it takes to complete the certification and exam.

“We recognize the need for more certified entry-level IT employees in the workforce quickly in San Antonio and the region,” said John Grillo, NVC chair of computer science, technology, and business. “And, NVC’s CCNA program doesn’t just train you to take an exam - we provide the hands-on skills needed to be successful in the workplace.”

Considered a foundation for entry-level networking jobs, the CCNA courses cover the latest protocols for networking technologies, security, automation and programmability in networked environments to prepare for the CCNA certification exam.

Within the Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) program, students can earn an occupational skills award (OSA) for the Group Fitness Trainer, Personal Fitness Trainer, or Corrective Exercise Trainer in one semester each. After completing a program, students are provided vouchers to pay for the certification exams.

“Our OSA’s get students ready to take certification exams from organizations such as the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA),” said Teri Dimas, coordinator of the NVC Personal Fitness Trainer program. “Students also learn about the fitness business and how to keep up with the changing industry and client needs amid and post pandemic.”

The OSA courses also apply for those who want to work towards a Personal Fitness Level 2 certificate or an associate of applied science degree.

Spring 2022 classes are registering now. More information about all NVC programs and how to apply is at alamo.edu/nvc/dreambig.
