Why did you choose NVC and what do you like about it?
It was initially close to home until I relocated downtown. I chose to continue to go to NVC because of the wonderful staff and art department. The campus itself is also very beautiful and so many resources are in place if needed.
Describe your background. What made you decide to be an artist?
I’m Hispanic and Italian & was born in Germany. Art has always been in my blood, which began with my older brother who started showing talent at a young age. I realized I was also showing talent at a young age when I became interested in painting nails and rocks way too often. I used to carry nail polish with me in high school so I could offer my friends free manicures whenever we had time to spare.
Which classes or faculty members impacted your work and your life?
Rachael Bower (printmaking) and Paul Northway (ceramics).
Describe your work’s concept, aesthetic, and your process of making it.
I favor bold and bright color palettes and shapes. I love to work in a free flow style most of the time because I enjoy the process so much. I like to gradually take my time with each piece to carefully see how much progression takes place. I incorporate a lot of blocks of color and geometric forms because I’ve always been interested in making textiles too.
Which artists inspire and/or influence you the most and why?
Margaret Kilgallen is currently inspiring me. I appreciated her sense of appreciation for hand-made signs and typography. It’s been influencing my printmaking this year.
What kind of plans do you have set for your future as an artist? Are you planning to pursue a Bachelor's degree?
I will continue to sell my work professionally and will start applying the new techniques that I have learned this semester towards my new work. I may or may not finish my bachelors degree. Only time will tell.
