ArtworkWhy did you choose NVC and what do you like about it?
I chose NVC because they provide a great atmosphere and learning experience.

Describe your background. What made you decide to be an artist?
For as long as I can remember, fashion and art have been two prominent aspects of my life. They are what define me and my future and I can’t see myself without either of them. I love blurring the lines between fashion and art and finding artists and designers who do the same. My art style closely resembles my personality- very quirky and unconventional. I enjoy thinking outside the box and finding ways to blend parts of my personality into my art. Whether it's a concept, a color, or a new medium. My art is a reflection of my life.

Which classes or faculty members impacted your work and your life?
I was delighted to have such creative and understanding professors throughout my semesters at NVC. Esteban Delgado and Jimena Marin told me to always keep an open mind and to broaden my artistic point of view. They taught me to experiment with other styles and techniques while still staying grounded to my own artistic roots.

Describe your work’s concept, aesthetic, and your process of making it.
My artistic style is based on my own personality, experiences, and my future. I love to incorporate unconventional materials and ideas. My concepts are usually tied to a message whether it is a deep and meaningful or just a silly piece I decided to create. My aesthetic is rooted to my personality and I would say it's made up of bright colors, shiny elements (holographic, iridescent, glitter, rhinestones, etc.), pop culture, and decadent designs and details with a preference towards showing concepts of fashion. My process of creating a piece usually takes a bold idea to get me started. I begin with multiple ideas and combine them to form one uniform and clear concept. I start with a sketch and color story, then translate that onto my canvas. Depending on how detailed the piece is, it ranges from three to twenty-seven hours. I never stick with one medium, I incorporate about five others to give it more depth. My favorite part by far is adding the unconventional elements and seeing the finished product.

Which artists inspire and/or influence you the most and why?
The artist that truly inspires me is Ashley Longshore. In both, her personality and art, she is bold, unconventional, and candidly original. She is not afraid to experiment with new elements and techniques and draws inspiration from her day-to-day life, pop culture icons, and art. She takes something classic and makes it modern and fun. Her pieces are so unique, yet so cohesive. Her artistic style is very clear and one of a kind.

What kind of plans do you have set for your future as an artist? Are you planning to pursue a Bachelor's degree?
I am planning on pursuing a career in fashion and to do so I will be attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) next fall. In the future, I am working towards being in the fashion industry, whether that is: a fashion buyer, working for a fashion magazine, fashion/garment design, runway production, etc. and I will constantly be blurring the lines between fashion and art.
