The Vagina Monologues
Written by Eve Ensler

An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it."

Trigger warning: This play deals with heavy/traumatic subject matter such as sexual abuse, rape, and body mutilation.  The audition requires a reading of one of three monologues pulled from the script.  Actors who are cast in this show must be prepared to perform such subject matter in front of a live audience.  The play also talks about female anatomy, and sexual acts through metaphor but also realistic descriptions. Actors must show a sense of maturity and confidence towards this material.
