27th Annual Palo Alto College Jazz Festival

The 27th Annual Palo Alto College Jazz Festival features Junior High School and High School Jazz Ensembles from the greater San Antonio Metropolitan Area and surrounding areas. The ensembles will perform jazz compositions that a panel of judges will adjudicate. At the end of the festival, awards will be presented to outstanding student performers and the festival ensemble.

Special Performance by Mike Sailors and his quintet

Palo Alto College Music Department proudly announces Mike Sailors as our guest artist for the 27th Annual Palo Alto College Jazz Festival on April 12, 2024. Mr. Sailors and his quintet will perform immediately following the last adjudicated ensemble of the festival.

Mike Sailors is a world-class trumpeter and has performed around the world in Japan and Europe, as well as throughout the United States and Canada. Sailors has worked as a sideman for bands and artists, including the Birdland Big Band, Bobby Sanabria and The Multiverse Orchestra, the Fat Cat Big Band, the Baby Soda Jazz Band, the Hot Sardines, the Captain Black Big Band led by Orrin Evans, The Jason Marshall Big Band, The Steven Feikfe Big Band, Charlie Rosen and The 8-Bit Big Band, The Mingus Jazz Orchestra, and Adrian Cunningham and His Old School. His experience also includes performances with The Gerald Wilson Orchestra, Jon Hendricks, Rodney Whitaker, Dick Oatts, Wycliffe Gordon, Peter Bernstein and others. Sailors also serves as a copyist and editor for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Program.

In 2019, Sailors joined the faculty of The University of Texas Butler School of Music, where he leads the Jazz Trumpet Studio and mentors young artists looking to build careers in music.
