Eleven Rivers Review

The Eleven Rivers Review is a new creative writing and art journal produced entirely by PAC students. But this isn't the first time a literary review has been created for the college.

Student arts and literary journal

Eleven Rivers Review—Palo Alto College's Student Literary and Arts Journal produced biannually by Palo Alto College student writers, artists, and volunteer student-editors—offers students an opportunity to learn valuable skills for their portfolios.

Student editors' online application

Student editors application deadline on Friday, Sept. 29, at 11:59 p.m.
Passionate and motivated student-editors are needed to help edit and curate student submissions, promote the journal, develop its layout, and help plan the end-of-semester publication party. Student-editors are eligible for a $250 scholarship.

To apply for a student editor position, click "Apply Now" and complete the student editor application on OrgSync. You may be prompted to log in to OrgSync with your ACES ID first.

Call for creative writing, visual art, and photography

Art and writing submission deadline on Friday, Nov. 3, at 11:59 p.m.
Students interested in publishing creative writing, visual art or photography work in the next review are encouraged to submit entries before the deadline.

Cover art contest submission deadline on Friday, Nov. 3, at 11:59 p.m.
The Eleven Rivers Review staff is accepting submissions for the cover of the fall 2016 issue. The artist with the winning cover submission will receive a $50 Palo Alto Bookstore credit. Make sure to select the bubble labeled “Yes, this is a Cover Art entry” when submitting your work.

While all cover art submissions will be considered on their own merit, we prefer submissions inspired by one or more of the following subjects:

  • South San Antonio culture
  • Your personal academic inspiration (favorite subject or thinker)
  • Your favorite spot on campus
  • Horses, especially palominos
  • Rivers

To submit an entry for the journal and/or cover art contest, click "Submit Entry" and complete the art/writing submission form in OrgSync. You may be prompted to log in to OrgSync with your ACES ID first.

End-of-semester publication party

Journal publication party on Nov. 30, 6–7:30 p.m.
The Eleven Rivers Review hosts a publication party to showcase the newly completed journal, present the first print copies to contributors, and celebrate the exceptional talents of the student contributors. All contributors are invited to attend and are encouraged to bring friends and family. Student editors, artists, and writers are given an opportunity to read or discuss their work. Many of the artists choose to bring and display the art that was selected for the journal. Free food and drinks will be available.
