Financial Literacy Month

Attend to win a $250 Financial Literacy Award! 
At each of this month’s sessions, students may sign up for a chance to win a $250 Financial Literacy Award! A total of 10 winners will be selected each week.

Award qualifications: 

  • Home college must be Palo Alto College
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours
  • Must not be default on a student loan or repayment
  • Students does not have to be eligible for financial aid or have a FAFSA/TASFA on file
  • Early College High School and Dual Credit students are not eligible
  • May only win one time
Financial Literacy Month Launch Party

Students will learn about the importance of financial literacy and different opportunities to engage in to potentially win $250 in April 2023.

Thoughtful Spending & Understanding Debt

Thursday, April 6

Students will learn the following:

  • Types of debt
  • Debt-to-income ratio
  • Determining interest
  • Implications of borrowing
  • Debt that builds slack
Be Your Own Boss: Business Basics with Jordan McCook

Wednesday, April 12
12–1:30 p.m.
Student Center Annex

Students will learn the following:

  • Starting a business
  • Branding and marketing
  • Networking
  • Entrepreneurship keys, etc.
Planning to Save & Spend

Monday, April 17
12–1:30 p.m.
Student Center Annex

Students will learn the following:

  • Building slack
  • Barriers that get in the way
  • Impacts of spending now vs. spending later
Fin Lit Month Gameshow

Tuesday, April 18 
12–1:30 p.m.
Performing Arts Auditorium

Students will participate in a gameshow to test their financial literacy knowledge (cash prizes provided by gameshow host)

Understanding Credit

Wednesday, May 3 
12–1:30 p.m.

Students will learn the following:

  • The credit system
  • Who uses your credit score
  • What’s in a credit score
  • Types of credit
  • How your score impacts your slack
