Show me your mask

In collaboration with Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, the Fiesta Commission and MySA, Palo Alto College is launching a new event that gives residents a safe way to celebrate and prepare for participation in upcoming Fiesta festivities.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused last year’s Fiesta cancellation and changed the way we safely gather for in-person events – that is why the upcoming launch of the #ShowMeYourMask virtual competition will remind people to continue wearing their masks in hopes that we will be able to safely gather in the future.

The #ShowMeYourMask virtual competition is a spin on the popular Fiesta phrase, “Show Me Your Shoes” people say during Fiesta parades. Although we may not be able to celebrate in April, the online competition in partnership with MySA.com will allow residents an opportunity to get into the Fiesta spirit by decorating face masks.

The online competition is expected to start on Wednesday, April 21 with photo submissions of Fiesta-themed masks. Online entries will be accepted until Friday, May 21.  A panel of judges will then review the submissions and choose the top finalists in each age group. The finalists will be invited to participate at the Fiesta “Maskarade” Runway Show at Palo Alto College on Friday, June 18, 2021. The finalists’ mask designs will be posted online prior to the event so that San Antonio residents will have a chance to vote and choose the official winners. These winners will be announced at the event on June 18.

Categories will be based on age group:  elementary youth (4-11), secondary youth (12-17), adult (18-64), seniors (65+). Elementary youth themes will include “Animal Fiesta”, “Superhero Fiesta” and “Classic Fiesta”.  For participants aged 12 and older, the theme for their entries will include “Classic Fiesta, “Flores de Fiesta”, and “Fiesta Royale”. Descriptions for these categories and more information about online submissions can be found on MySA.com.
