Wireless Access @ Palo Alto College - The wireless network is available to Palo Alto College students, faculty and staff and offers fast and reliable data connection speeds. Wireless Internet access is available inside many buildings at Palo Alto College campus and also offers outdoor wireless in certain areas of campus. This site is your central 'one-stop shop' for useful information regarding Palo Alto College's wireless networks, wireless hotspot locations, connection instructions, frequently asked questions and equipment loaner programs.

Glossary:

802.11ac - An IEEE wireless standard that was defined subsequent to 802.11n. 1.3 gigabits per second (Gbps) is the speed most commonly cited as the 802.11ac standard. This is vastly quicker that 450Mbit per second speeds quoted on the 802.11n routers.

Acceptable Use Policy - Definition of what a user can and cannot do when using IT resources.

AlamoGuest Wireless Access - Guest wireless Access allow students and visitors to connect to the Internet at Palo Alto College main campus.

AlamoNet Wireless Access - AlamoNet Wireless network is available to Palo Alto College employees. This secure network will appear in the WiFi settings of a device and enables authorized users to access the internet and Alamo Colleges network resources.

Bandwidth - The maximum amount of information that can be transferred over a network in a given amount of time.

Wireless Access Point - Alternatively referred to as a wireless router, an access point is the location of a wireless receiver that enables a user with wireless access to connect to a network or the internet. Equipment from one vendor with "Wi-Fi" branding should be compatible.

Wi-Fi - Short for 'Wireless Fidelity'. A short-range wireless technology that allows devices to connect to and transfer information wirelessly over a local area network.
