Who We Are

EcoExchangeEdu (EEE) is a group of faculty, staff, and students from San Antonio-area colleges and universities who have been meeting since 2014 to share ideas about sustainability in our campus and civic communities. Our purpose is to share best practices and innovative ideas about campus sustainability across institutional boundaries in order to promote a more sustainable culture in San Antonio and beyond.

What We Do

EcoExchangeEdu holds regular meetings over the course of the academic year and encourages participation and representation of students, faculty, and staff from all San Antonio-area colleges and universities. The EcoExchangeEdu Steering Committee organizes an annual Sustainability Showcase, where students present their work in sustainability by way of formal presentations, creative arts, prototype demonstrations, public service announcements, mini-documentaries, and more!

Keynote Speaker: Danielle Belleny
The Nature Near Us
Wednesday, April 21, 2021
3:30 PM-4:30 PM
Hosted by Northeast Lakeview College Black Student Union

Danielle Belleny is a San Antonio wildlife biologist and the co-founder of #BlackBirdersWeek. Black Birders Week was an immediate response to racist events that happened in Central Park, where a white woman called the police on a black man, Christian Cooper, during a very dicey situation where incidents like the murder of George Floyd, were happening around the country to include a lot of tension between people of color and the police regarding police brutality. Belleny felt it was important to shed light on the fact that black nature enthusiast exist and occupying space and deserve to be safe in the places that they occupy. So she and the Black AF in STEM collective (a group of scientist that are advocates for people in nature resource management) launched a five day celebration, called Black Birders Week, to celebrate being black in nature and what it means to be a black birder and really engaging with people all over the world on outdoor activities and outdoor enthusiasts. See her presentation on YouTube with Pajaros as Pollinators.

Karst is a landscape that covers about 20% of the world’s land surface, but relatively few have heard of it and its many benefits and challenges to humanity, which is why the International Year of Caves and Karst was organized. They take different forms on the surface but also extend underground as landscapes hidden from general view, where they contain diverse, complex, and highly vulnerable aquifers and ecosystems.
