Architecture

Program Level: Degrees, Pre-Majors/Transfer
Department: Fine Arts
Institute: Creative & Communication Arts
College: SAC

What is the Architecture program?

Architecture is the art and science of designing buildings and other physical structures. Architecture is also a profession, and as in all professions, the required training begins in college, traditionally in the freshman year. Students who are serious about becoming an Architect are advised to declare a major in architecture as early as possible.

What will I learn?

As an architecture student, you will study a broad range of subjects, including design, graphics and media presentation, drawing, computer applications, architecture history, writing, and methods and materials of construction. Students who study architecture in college may go on to become licensed architects, or they can apply their learning to a related profession.

What can I do with this course of study?

San Antonio College offers the full range of courses that are normally required for the first two years of a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture. The majority of these courses are transferable to most universities throughout Texas as well as other states. We have articulation agreements with UT-San Antonio, Texas Tech University, and others. These courses also transfer for degrees in Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Construction Management.

What's special about our program?

For over 50 years the San Antonio Architecture Program has been introducing future professionals to their architectural studies. The Program's high standard of excellence is supported by low student-to-teacher ratios. Professors teach to their strengths and interests. Our Program has a reputation for transferring versatile, knowledgeable, and skilled students. The study of architecture at SAC is a hands-on approach, and the work of an Architect is both challenging and enjoyable.
