Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff

San Antonio College will celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with a performance by the SAC Mariachis Estrellas del Alamo.

Plus a salsa making contest.
Do you have a salsa recipe that's bursting with flavor? 
Then, sign up to enter our salsa contest.  First and second place winners will receive a prize. Winners will be selected by students who will taste and vote on their favorite salsa entry.

Announcement of HHM essay contest

Tuesday, Sept. 19
“Educate to Empower.  How Alamo Colleges policy and immigration law coexist.”
 
A panel of speakers will provide information on how district policy, immigration law, and SB4 affect students.  Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions. Light refreshments will be served
 
Featured panelists are:
Don Adams, Chief of Police, Alamo Colleges District
Carmen De Luna-Jones, Student Success Coordinator
Elizabeth Almanza, Outreach Coordinator, American Gateways
 
Representatives from the Mexican Consulate and USCIS office will be present to answer questions and meet with students.

We provide the paint and supplies; you simply put bring your creativity!  Come make new friends and join us for the fun as we paint a portrait of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Light refreshments will be served.

Bárbara Renaud-Gonzalez – author of Las Nalgas de JLo/JLo's Booty and Golondrina, why did you leave Me? , poet and first Chicana columnist in Texas. 

Juan Tejeda – musician, book publisher/Aztlan Libre Press and founder of Mexican-American Studies at Palo Alto College. 

Renaud González will read from her new book with musical accompaniment by Tejeda. A Q&A and book signing will follow the presentation.

The life of the Revolutionary Women Soldiers during the Mexican Revolution

A Presentation by former SAC Instructor Graciela Arizpe-Ortiz on the historical and social-political perspectives of the Adelitas during the Mexican Revolution. The presentation will feature regional corridos (folksongs), photographs, images, and artifacts from the period.
