Van_Hanos web.jpg Visual Arts Program is extremely pleased to present a virtual lecture by contemporary artist Van Hanos. Exploring the history of painting within a contemporary context, Hanos’ work juxtaposes 18th and 19th century academic styles with abstraction, lifts from historical masterworks, and his own photographs, so as to investigate and challenge the medium and meaning of painting.

In the past decade and a half, the artist has exhibited his art in both solo and group exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally, including throughout Germany, Italy and Denmark. His work has been widely reviewed in the most notable national and international contemporary arts publications, including Flash Art, Artforum, Art in America and the New York Times Magazine.

Van Hanos received a master of fine arts from the School of the Arts at Columbia University in New York in 2010, and currently lives and works in New York City and Marfa, Texas.

This event is sponsored by the Visual Arts Department in the Department of Fine Arts, the Office of Student Life, the Student Activities Fee Committee at San Antonio College, and Contemporary Art Month San Antonio.
