San Antonio College has been recognized as being an LGBTQ friendly institution by the Campus Pride Index, which maintains a national ranking of colleges and universities based on policies and programs that foster a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ students.

Campus Pride Index copy.jpgSAC received a 4.5 star out of a possible 5-star rating and received Premiere status from the Index.

SAC is the only community college in the state to be included in the Campus Pride Index. It is one of only 13 colleges in Texas to receive the ranking and one of only two in San Antonio make the list, the other being Trinity University.

According to Jacob Aidan-Martinez, director of the Office of Student Life, SAC was required to submit documentation and assessment of its LGBTQ friendly policies to be considered for the Index. SAC received high marks for developing several programs and initiatives. These include:

  • Maintaining an LGBT Resource Page on the SAC website that will stay active and be updated all year.
  • Expanding an advisory group for all LGBTQ Issues.
  • Creating a program for LGBT Staff/Faculty mentors for LGBTQ students

The Campus Pride index is owned and operated by Campus Pride, the leading national nonprofit organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create safer, more LGBTQ-friendly learning environments at colleges and universities. The index is supported under the Campus Pride Q Research Institute for Higher Education as well as benefits from strategic partnerships with professional organizations in higher education and related LGBTQ nonprofit organizations.
