Public Feedback Regarding SAC Mascot
June 24, 2020
A Message from Dr. Robert Vela, President of San Antonio College
This September, SAC will celebrate our 95th anniversary. That means our centennial is right around the corner, prompting our students, faculty and staff to re-examine our history contemplate our future, and prepare for wonderful things ahead. We are proud of our rich history and excited about our future. We also know that transformational change efforts have begun. For more than a year, many people and organizations on campus have debated the future of our mascot, The Ranger. The opinions have been strong, the voices even stronger, and there’s a strong sense of urgency to take action. Therefore, the College Council and I will convene a special session on July 14th to vote on the matter. But we want to hear from you as we decide whether to keep or remove the mascot. We’ve created a dedicated area on the SAC website where you can share your opinion. Visit this link to fill out and submit a special form that includes your name, email address, and phone number so we can verify your submission.
All messages will be professionally tallied and then shared with the College Council in advance of the vote. In addition, you’ll be offered an opportunity to speak at the Zoom session where the vote will be taken. Full details and instructionsare available at the link below. Deadline for submissions is July 8 at 5 p.m. We encourage you to participate in this important and historic event at SAC. And no matter the decision, rest assured that your voices will be heard! Thank you.
