SAC Reaffirmation Announcement
A Message from Dr. Robert Vela, SAC President
Earlier today, I learned that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has reaffirmed San Antonio College’s accreditation, with no recommendations, through June 2026.
Additionally, it was announced that our sister colleges, St. Philip’s and Northwest Vista, were also reaffirmed; and Northeast Lakeview College has been granted accreditation.
As we await the official letter from SACSCOC which is expected in January 2018, I want to take this time to express my gratitude to everyone involved with the reaffirmation process, most especially, the SAC College Executive Team and our SACSCOC Liaison, Dr. Lisa Zottarelli.
I would be remiss if I did not also take this opportunity to thank Dr. Yvonne Katz, Chair of the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees, and Dr. Bruce Leslie, Chancellor of the Alamo Colleges District. The reaffirmation of San Antonio College is a direct result of their unwavering support and collaboration throughout the past 12 months as we worked to address SACSCOC’s recommendations.
Founded in 1925, SAC is one of the oldest community colleges in Texas and has been accredited by SACSCOC since 1955. Today, our mission remains the same—to serve our students and our community at large. In the 2016-2017 academic year, SAC awarded a record 5,531 degrees and certificates. As well, earlier this semester, SAC was selected as one of the top 150 institutions in the nation for community college excellence by the Aspen Institute.
Thank you to our faculty, staff, and students for their continued efforts to uphold San Antonio College as a pillar of excellence in our community.
For this, and so many other reasons, I am SAC Proud.
Dr. Robert Vela
