March 28, 2019

Former coordinator of student success in the Office of Student Life, Jacob-Aidan Martinez returns to the Student Life department as its new director.

Martinez has been an employee at San Antonio College since May 2011 and begins his second directorship over the department where he initially began employment. Most recently, Martinez served as the Director of Student Conduct and has worked on major projects within the Office of the Dean of Student Success.

A native to San Antonio, Jacob-Aidan Martinez is a product of the Alamo Colleges District earning an associate degree from Palo Alto College. He is a huge proponent of higher education and attended St. Mary’s University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. In December 2009, he received a master’s in Higher Education Administration from UTSA. And currently, he is in his fourth year in the Higher Education Administration doctoral program at Texas Tech University and has recently completed all coursework and has begun writing his dissertation.

Prior to working at SAC, Martinez worked as the Assistant Registrar at Texas A&M – Kingsville and was a Financial Aid Officer at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

As director of the Student Life department, Martinez will oversee campus activities and events, clubs and organizations, intramural and recreational sports, civic engagement, service and experiential learning, the Bae-B-Safe grant, and financial literacy.

In his more than 13 years of experience in higher education, Martinez has become a proven leader in Student Affairs. He enjoys helping students find their way in life and serving as a mentor for people of all ages and backgrounds.

“My hopes for the Office of Student Life are that we find new ways to engage with our students,” said Martinez. “I want every student to have a positive experience in our office, our student center, and our campus!”

In his spare time, Martinez enjoys collecting Funko Pops, running, playing with Bella, his dog, and giving back to the community.

When asked what super human power he would most like to have, Martinez said, “I would love to stop time so that I can do more for myself and students, but also go back in time to relive fun experiences.”
