SAC Congratulates Travis Early College High School for National Honor
San Antonio College congratulates Travis Early College High School for being recognized as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Part of the San Antonio ISD, Travis Early High School is an academic program partner of SAC.
"We are very proud of Travis for receiving this national honor," said SAISD Superintendent Pedro Martinez. "This represents the high standards of school staff and students and their ability to achieve academic excellence."
"On behalf of San Antonio College, I offer my congratulations to the faculty, staff, and especially the students at Travis Early College High School on being named a 2017 Blue Ribbon School. This honor acknowledges the students' hard work and uplifts not only our institutions, but our entire community," said Dr. Robert Vela, President of San Antonio College. "I'd also like to thank the SAC faculty and staff who work with Travis' students. This collective impact is now a proven recipe for student success."
Each year the Texas Education Agency nominates public schools in the state for the national recognition given by the Department of Education. The nominated schools then complete a rigorous application process through the Department of Education. Travis Early College High School was one of only two schools in San Antonio to be award the honor, which the high school received in late September.
Travis Early College High School, located across the street from San Antonio College, puts students on the fast-track to higher education by allowing them to take high school and college courses that lead to a diploma and up to two years of tuition-free college credit.
Founded in 1982, Blue Ribbon Schools is a U.S. Department of Education program that recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels.
