Featuring Student Success Initiatives in Community Gardening
St. Philip's College presents the 12th Annual STEM Symposium, featuring Student Success Initiativesin Community Gardening on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Come hear about St. Philip's College's community gardening & learn about the ethnobotany of local plants and food recovery challenges in the US.
St. Philip's College (SPC) replaced landscaping on its campus with vegetables and herbs several years ago to help provide a food source for the community. Hear how SPC won funding from Home Depot's ReTool Your School program and see the new community garden. Hear about the ethnobotany of local plants from San Antonio Botanical Garden's conservation specialist, Maeve Bassett. Learn about the US Food Recovery Challenge from an environmental engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Dallas.
