HIDDEN FIGURES AUTHOR MARGOT LEE SHETTERLY ENHANCES KRUEGER SCHOOL OF APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES STUDENT ROCKET SCIENCE EDUCATION AT ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE
The Hispanic Heritage Month speaking debut of the Hidden Figures author Margot Lee Shetterly for the 2018 St. Philip's College President’s Lecture Series project of seminars and lectures at the college on Sept. 20 has impacts on many segments of audiences shared by both the college and the author.
One contingent of guests during the a mix of physical and virtual presentations on the college’s campus at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive included eighth grade students of rocket science from the Krueger School of Applied Technologies magnet program of North East Independent School District.
The district expressed pleasure that the opportunity to learn with the definitive author on an elite population of mathematicians who helped win the space race was especially relevant to their Krueger students, “because much of their coursework involves engineering design and technology through the use of rocketry and industry grade software,” according to the district’s Sept. 26 online report. The Krueger students of rocket science and the rest of the lecture audience found Shetterly is more high-speed and business project management oriented than previously assumed, as she actually wrote the definitive hit book concurrently with the production of the companion hit film, rather than before the film.
