SPC to Host Topping Out Ceremony for Norris Technical Building
January 14, 2020
St. Philip’s College (SPC) will host a topping out celebration for the renovated Norris Technical Building on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will mark a significant milestone in the Capital Improvement Projects underway at SPC. The event will capture employees and students from the Alamo Colleges District as they participate in the signing of a giant steel beam which will be raised by an immense crane to the top of the area of the building. The ceremony will be the second “topping out” event to be held for a project funded by the district’s 2017 $450 million bond program approved by Bexar County voters.
The Norris Technical Building was built in 1970 and originally completed with three floors. A fourth floor was added in 1972. The building was named in 1975 in honor of Clarence W. Norris, Dean Emeritus, who served as the second President of St. Philip's, 1954-1969. The building will continue to houses the Reading and English departments, Instructional Technology (IT) and Information and Communication Technology department. It is also home to the Learning Lab, the Reading Lab, the Tutoring and Technology Center (TNT) and the Rose R. Thomas Writing Center. Several SMART® Classrooms and training labs will be located throughout the building.
The event is free and open to the public.
